Artist's Comments

I have been accepted to exhibit in the Colorado Gothic Arts Festival in May of this year. I wanted to do a special piece for this show and I began thinking about the changing meaning of the word "Gothic" over the years in America. I thought about Grant Wood's work "American Gothic" in the context of today's meaning of the word "Gothic". I had a mental flash that became this pencil work. I find at least a few layers of humor in it. I hope you enjoy it too! Thank you Grant!

I think this idea is from Norman Rockwell from the 70s. I think you kinda stole it.

Norman Rockwell did a 2005 "Gothic" treatment of "American Gothic"? I did not even think guages piercings were around back then? Oh well...Tip of the hat to Norman. If I did borrow from NR I am proud to do it. He is AWESOME!

Oh yeah, didnt you know? Norman Rockwell was a big fetishist. S&M, bondage, everything. No really though, this is so clever and f-ing hilarous i could puke all over my monitor for days!
